Sazerac Rye 18 Year (Fall 2021) is a Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey and is one of the five bottlings in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection released each fall. For the 2021 release, barrels were filled in spring 2002 and were picked from barrels which matured on the third floor of Warehouse K. The evaporation for this batch was 76.9%. Bottled after chill-filtration after 18 years and 4 months of aging at 90 proof.
Sazerac 18 Year (Fall 2021) Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Peppermint and menthol capture your attention upfront on the nose, backed by classic rye spice.
Palate: The palate then brings semisweet Baker’s chocolate to the table, along with tannic oak, pine needles, cinnamon and cloves.
Finish: The finish is fairly quick, with cedar, black pepper and vanilla, with a closing flourish of Peppermint Patties.
Distillery Information
Buffalo Trace Distillery is a distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, that is owned by the Sazerac Company. It has historically been known by several names, including the George T. Stagg Distillery and the Old Fire Copper (O.F.C.) Distillery. Its namesake bourbon brand, Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey, was introduced in August 1999. The company claims the distillery is the oldest continuously-operating distillery in the United States. The company says the name “”Buffalo Trace”” refers to an ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River in Franklin County, Kentucky. The Sazerac Company purchased the distillery in 1992.
